I am honoured that my guest in this episode is peace activist Jo Berry.
Jo is an inspiring speaker, mentor and consultant who works to resolve conflict around the world. Her father Sir Anthony Berry was killed by the IRA in the 1984 IRA Brighton Bombing. Sixteen years later Jo first met with the man responsible, Pat Magee.
This initial three-hour meeting led to them speaking on over three hundred occasions, on a shared platform around the world. Their unusual relationship was the subject of the BBC documentary “Facing the Enemy” and was featured in the film” Beyond Right and Wrong” and inspired “The Bomb” a play by Kevin Dyer.
The founder of the charity ‘Building Bridges for Peace’, Jo advocates that unbounded empathy is the biggest weapon we have to end conflict. Her story is fascinating, moving and challenging at times but ultimately it is one of hope and inspiration as she talks of the inner peace she has latterly found and encourages us to see the humanity in others.
